Charlotte Bilingual Preschool is honored to have been the recipient of Apparo’s 2018 Mission Possible Economic Opportunity Award. As a result of this award, we embarked on a Community Impact Project with Apparo and an Accenture volunteer team.
Charlotte recently ranked 50 out of 50 U.S. cities in economic mobility, with access to early education programs identified as a factor. Without a high-quality preschool education, children enter Kindergarten behind, are half as likely to read on grade level in third grade, and are four times as likely to drop out of high school. The need for early intervention is large: every year, 3,000 Latinx children enter Kindergarten in our county.
To successfully scale our model to meet this community need, we needed a technology-based overhaul of our internal systems. Before our work with Accenture, we were inundated with paper, Excel spreadsheets, and data storage issues. Our Community Impact Project through Apparo helped us identify and implement a student management software system to efficiently manage all data related to students and families. And this gift extends beyond our Power School database. Apparo and our volunteer team gave us a new lens to view our impact and quantify our goals. They helped us dream big and connect this new database to strategic vision.
Now we have a system that:
· Provides teachers with a live data system with current/historic student information, enabling immediate and effective intervention
· Is 100% secure, minimizing risk related to student and family personal data
· Creates a time savings by easing our registration process
· Delivers critical and accurate reporting to support student outcomes
· Fosters digital literacy for our families
The quality of service provided by Apparo and our volunteer team has meant being able to transform our school. We will be able to now serve more children and families better and longer. Please feel free to contact me with any follow up questions.
