G.A.I.N. – powered by Lowe’s
Wells Fargo and Hewlett Packard Enterprise skilled volunteers delivered a security assessment and recommendations for improvement to Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte.
Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte (SCC) creates connections for seniors to reduce the negative impact of social isolation. By providing learning opportunities, social activities and critical support services, SCC strives to improve life in Charlotte.
SCC completed the final phase in their journey of Apparo’s G.A.I.N. program. In this phase they received security education and they were matched to two skilled volunteers, Chad Browninger (Hewlett Packard Enterprise), Phillip Richards (Wells Fargo), who assessed their current security practices and made recommendations for improvement. The G.A.I.N. program is generously sponsored by Lowe’s and EY.
After completion of this project, we checked in with Alissa Celek, Director of the SCC to learn about the significance and anticipated impact. Alissa shares, “Before this project, we did not have any formal security protocols in place. My email was hacked just a few weeks before this project and I wasn’t sure of the right steps to take. Now, I have a sense of calm, knowing that we have a blueprint for how to handle a security situation, if something happens to us. All of the training was great and I appreciate the reminders that we need to be vigilant and mindful at all times.”
Volunteer Chad Browninger shared, “While we get some credit as volunteers, more goes to the nonprofits to make it all happen. Alissa was fantastic to work with and Ashely [Ditmar, Apparo] made it fun and kept us on track.”
