Duke Energy skilled volunteers deliver a security assessment to RunningWorks
RunningWorks empowers the homeless, severely impoverished and marginalized with housing, transportation, employment, mental health and recovery services. They strengthen the whole person through life skill development, social support and case management, as well as the values accrued via running and walking.
RunningWorks completed the final phase in their journey of Apparo’s G.A.I.N. program. In this phase, they received a security assessment and were matched with Duke Energy skilled volunteers, Zack Harris and Espoir Tomenou. Prior to the assessment, RunningWorks listed several pain points including: internet cybersecurity, lack of training, password issues, and email usage. As a result of the assessment, recommendations were given to increase the overall security of RunningWorks. The G.A.I.N. program is generously sponsored by Lowe’s and EY.
After completion of this project, we checked in with Matt Sharp, Chief Operating Officer of RunningWorks and he said, “ The skilled volunteers have been a huge help through this entire process of G.A.I.N., not only with this last security assessment piece. Going through this process over the last two years has given me the opportunity to look at some of the technology pieces and learn how to prioritize. It was great to have Zack and Espoir to help throughout this process.”
Duke Energy skilled volunteer, Espoir Tomenou, shared his experience, “As a volunteer for the G.A.I.N program, my role required me to help and guide RunningWorks organization’s ability to operate securely. I believe it is my responsibility as a cybersecurity professional to equip organizations and individuals with the required knowledge to outsmart cyber threat.”
