G.A.I.N. – powered by Lowe’s
Trane Technologies and CCP Tech skilled volunteers assessed Memory and Movement Charlotte’s security protocols and made recommendations for improvement to help ensure the security of private client data.
Memory & Movement Charlotte (MMC) is devoted to meeting the medical, safety and behavioral needs of patients with Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and other forms of memory and movement disorders. Using a time-and-attention model, MMC develops a care plan for each patient. At the same time, caregivers receive continuing education, and time to ask questions and express concerns. No one is turned away.
In this final phase of their G.A.I.N. journey, they received security education and were matched to a skilled volunteer, Noah Davis of Trane Technologies, who assessed their security protocols and made recommendations for improvement. The G.A.I.N. program is generously sponsored by Lowe’s and EY. This project was facilitated by volunteer Change Agent, Bill Hammelman of CCP Tech.
At the completion of this project, we checked in with Janet LeClair, Executive Director, to learn more about the significance and anticipated impact. Janet shares, “Before this project, we had conducted annual security trainings, but did not have any formal security policies or a crisis plan in place, besides our COVID one. We knew that hacking attempts were rampant and that even smaller organizations like ours could be targeted, so we knew we needed to do more to protect ourselves. It’s critical for us to protect our private, medical data for the security of our patients and also to protect our reputation.”
She explains that as a result of this project, MMC:
- Will save money by using Apparo-recommended, high quality, free security training for their staff
- Is better positioned for grants, by ability to demonstrate to funders that they are a secure, well-managed organization
- Has Board sponsorship to prioritize their organizational security, which helps drive by-in across the staff
- Is a secure organization, with limited risk to their clients’ data
“Education and knowledge is power. The more our employees are educated the better. Now we are in a better position to avoid a breach and protect our data.”
Bill Hammelman shared his appreciation as well, “We’ve come a long way together. Janet is so pragmatic, she makes change happen. We put together tools to help them with security and she quickly ensured that they were implemented. It’s been a pleasure working with Memory and Movement Charlotte on this project and over the past two years.”
