Nonprofit technology hiring can be a challenge, but one that Apparo’s Tech Therapy team is ready to help address.
With a merger pending, Loaves & Fishes leadership knew they needed a new technology hire to replace their outside contractors, but did not know the best path forward. CEO Tina Postel turned to Apparo’s Tech Therapy team for support. “I’m not an IT person, so this was outside of my wheelhouse. So like I always do when I am faced with any IT decision, I turn to my friends at Apparo and ask for help,” Tina explains.
The current system of using outside contractors was not ideal because of cost and longer than desired wait times for help. Apparo’s Stephanie McKee helped with writing a job description, identifying where to post the position, interviewing candidates, selecting the hire, mentoring the new hire and building a training plan.
As the merger happened, this internal hire, Paige Stryker, was critical to its success. Since she already knew the Loaves & Fishes SharePoint system, she was able to bring the Friendship Trays team on board efficiently. “This SharePoint migration would have cost a fortune if we were using contractors, which we would have been, had it not been for Apparo’s support,” Tina shares.
When Paige moved on to a new role, Stephanie stepped in again to help hire a new external candidate, Kevin Kostic.
In closing, Tina says, “Having someone in house to solve little emergencies and also think strategically about our technology is a blessing. We are in the business of feeding people and having good IT that works as it should makes feeding people so much easier.”
