Volunteers have supported S.T.A.R.S. in selection of fundraising software that will help them meet their financial goals.
S.T.A.R.S. Math and English Academy seeks to improve the math, English, and reading skills of children in need of educational assistance by at least two grade levels. They provide approximately $500,000 of free academic enrichment per year for students in grades 3-12 annually through their educational programs.
S.T.A.R.S. was fundraising with out a donor management tool. As part of their G.A.I.N. – powered by Lowe’s – journey, they were matched with skilled volunteers to help them identify a fundraising software solution that would allow them to more efficiently track, manage, report and communicate with current and potential donors.
The volunteers partnered with S.T.A.R.S. to understand their current fundraising processes, including data collection and reporting as well as prioritize requirements for a software solution. They provide marketplace research, demos, price comparisons, and assisted S.T.A.R.S. with evaluating potential solutions against the documented requirements. Little Green Light was the solution selected in this project that delivered 91 hours and $17.745 in value of support to S.T.A.R.S.

- Nonprofit partner: Tawruss Sellars
New fundraising software will help S.T.A.R.S. improve their outreach efforts and reach their financial campaign goals.
After the completion of this project, we spoke with Tawruss Sellars to learn about the anticipated impact of this project. He shares that Little Green Light will allow S.T.A.R.S. to have organized donor information that can be easily accessed and shared, allowing their team and Board to be more productive. This improved organization of donor data will also reduce accidental missed thank-you’s and ensure a better donor experience. They will also have a better understanding of donor behavior through faster and more accurate information.. As a result, they will be better at targeting campaigns and reaching future donor goals.
Volunteers shared their appreciation of this opportunity to create social good.
Dan Knezevic: “I enjoyed working with S.T.A.R.S to identify a software solution that best suits their need. Tawruss and Elijah were very impressive as they reviewed, analyzed
and discussed the various options. The amount and thoroughness of their analysis was most impressive. I wish them the best of luck with their new tool.”
Sarvana Rajan: “I was really glad to be part of this project and plant some seeds to select a Constituent Management System for STARS. It’s an amazing effort led by Apparo for S.T.A.R.S. to uplift the ways that S.T.A.R.S. manages their constituents. Keep it up S.T.A.R.S. and Apparo!”
