View Kevin Yount’s Volunteer Spotlight
We checked in recently with repeat Apparo volunteer, Kevin Yount of CapTech Consulting, to learn about his experience working with us and our nonprofit partners. Kevin has supported the nonprofit community by serving as a one-on-one IT Coach for Ilana Toch, Development Associate at the Jewish Federation of Greater Charlotte, as a SharePoint trainer for a team from Charlotte Rescue Mission and a SharePoint/OneDrive trainer for a team from Lily Pad Haven.
“I enjoy volunteering with Apparo because I’m helping nonprofits, who, in turn are helping others,” explains Kevin. “Everyone I’ve helped has been so positive and appreciative. I like figuring out how to be efficient and sharing what I know. It’s a very engaging way to volunteer when you can pay it forward by sharing your skills and what you do on a day to day basis.”
He also shares his appreciation for CapTech and Apparo. In terms of CapTech, they not only provided the time for him to volunteer, but also encouraged him to do so. As he says, “An organization that encourages their employees to volunteer is a great one to work for.” His appreciation for Apparo stems from the support he’s received throughout all of his volunteer experiences with us. “Jennifer [Ray] was very supportive and helped me connect the dots. I had Apparo’s support on everything I did. I was set up for success and my responsibilities were clear.”
Two nonprofit recipients of his support shared their thoughts on the impact of his volunteer work:
- “Working with Kevin was great. My work in Excel is now much more systematic and quicker. It’s transferable to many other situations. I feel very confident in what we worked on together,” shares Ilana Toch.
- Alexa Nagy, Lily Pad Haven Community Outreach and Development Coordinator, explains that she was initially unsure of how much she could gain from the training, given her relatively high level of experience with SharePoint. “But I was pleasantly surprised,” she says. “I learned many things that I did not already know.” She also really enjoyed her time in the class. “Kevin was very clear, answered all of our questions and delivered the material in a lighthearted, relaxed setting that made learning fun.” Alexa and her Lily Pad Haven co-workers are already realizing the efficiency benefits of Microsoft Teams and of working in the cloud. “We can now just ping each other, without having to walk around to find someone; we can easily share documents and have improved ability to work from home or while we are traveling.”
