In her first year as a skilled nonprofit volunteer, Danielle Okun has already provided impactful technology assessments and plans to three nonprofits.
Danielle shares, “When I first learned about Apparo from a colleague at CapTech, I thought that is exactly what I’ve been looking for in terms of volunteering, something aligned with my values that also puts my skills to use for organizations that have a big impact.
“The role that Apparo plays, walking alongside the nonprofit while we volunteer, is so important because it helps them from being overwhelmed and shows them the path forward. The structure allows us as volunteers to have autonomy, but gives us structure, guides our direction and keeps us on track, moving forward.
“I love every part of volunteering with Apparo. It ties together what I do professionally with organizations that have an impact on the community. It’s so good to see that what I’m learning in my professional life is applicable outside of it. Knowing that I’ve contributed to the Charlotte community means a lot to me and helps me to feel more connected.
“I appreciate the opportunity to connect with people that I would otherwise not cross paths with. Others from CapTech, the Apparo staff and the nonprofit teams, who are so eager to learn and implement change that it’s such a pleasure to work with them.
“I was especially honored to have had the opportunity to work directly with Apparo on your technology plan. Not only do you enable us to volunteer with other nonprofits, but you trusted us as volunteers to do the same for you.
“When I get to participate in an Apparo project, it’s the highlight of those weeks. It enhances both my professional and personal experience.”
Danielle’s Apparo nonprofit volunteer service includes three technology assessments & plans:
- Spring 2023 – OMITT Trade School
- Fall-Winter 2023 – Apparo
- Spring-Summer 2024 – Urban League of Central Carolinas
