As an avid Apparo and nonprofit community supporter, Ben Wilson fosters an environment of technological growth that goes beyond the numbers
In 2022, Benjamin Wilson, owner of Deliverypath, began his journey with Apparo skilled volunteering. While this isn’t Ben’s only involvement with the nonprofit community, he recently sat down with the Apparo team to discuss his role in amplifying nonprofit missions through technology. Within his first year of skilled volunteering, Ben has provided technology advice that has benefited missions of important Charlotte nonprofits like Charlotte Community ToolBank and Alexander Youth Network.
Not only has Ben provided Tech Therapy to several Charlotte nonprofits, but also recently instructed a series of Apparo’s Nonprofit Bytes+Insights webinars. These webinars provide free educational content to nonprofits that allow them to learn new skills or take on their technology challenges. Ben shared how much effort and preparation goes into something like leading a webinar series, but emphasized how seamless Apparo’s Yenting Liu and Ben’s counterpart, Ross Feldman, made the process.
Ben’s webinar series was focused on WordPress, where they discussed security, marketing, and more for optimizing nonprofit websites. Watch the first of this series here. Yenting Liu shares what it was like working with Ben on the series, “Working with Ben was an absolute pleasure; his ability to discuss and teach complex WordPress and security concepts in a simple way made the entire experience enjoyable and effortless. Ben led an amazing 3-part webinar series that truly helped to empower nonprofits with valuable knowledge on a popular website platform“.
As Apparo’s webhost, a reliable skilled volunteer, and trusted technology advisor, Ben has made a significant positive impact in the Apparo network. Ben shares about his experience as a volunteer, “Sometimes you don’t always remember what people say or do, but you remember how they make you feel. After talking with Apparo, I feel appreciated and assured that the skills and advice I’m offering are valuable. When I’m called to respond to a technology concern, no matter how small, they let me know how much it is appreciated. Apparo provides a certain level of assurance that the time and commitment I’m offering is channeled in ways that truly make a difference“.
More Apparo staff and nonprofit leaders share their appreciation of Ben’s willingness to provide technology advice both on the spot and after hours of careful preparation:

-Maureen Krueger, Executive Director of Charlotte ToolBank
Skilled volunteers like Ben are a vital aspect of Apparo’s effort to amplify nonprofit missions. He emphasizes the value of supporting nonprofits who are just starting out, “Volunteering with Apparo and knowing I’m making a difference is a constant reminder of the individuals and organizations that have helped me in the past”
“I would encourage every company to consider participating with Apparo in some way. I think it’s important to have a plan for how you’re going to give back to others because there are probably organizations that helped you along the way, regardless of what career you have or if you’re still just starting out. Getting involved with Apparo is a great way to pay it forward”.
When asked if he would recommend that others get involved with Apparo’s skilled volunteering, Ben says, “The answer is always going to be yes, check out their website, do your research, and you can tap into an extremely valuable network of people who are good at and enjoy what they do. Expanding my network with quality individuals here in the Charlotte region helps me do my job better”.
