Apparo volunteer since 2015, Tina Schurr has served four nonprofits and looks forward to working with more.
“The first time I volunteered with Apparo, I helped a nonprofit leader at Junior Achievement with their Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills. I work with those every day and I really enjoyed making these tools more useful and understandable for someone who was less familiar with them. I also really enjoyed getting to know her and the nonprofit.
“That experience made me want to volunteer with Apparo again, which I did through the G.A.I.N. program. Apparo was extremely supportive and your project managers were so helpful at filling the gaps and making sure that we were staying on track.
“Volunteering with Apparo gives me an opportunity to use skills that I don’t get to use regularly and a different part of my brain to help nonprofits. I’ve recruited some of my colleagues to work on Apparo projects and I tell them that they will get to use skills they don’t use every day, which is a good way to stretch your skills and make sure you stay fresh. And you get to do this will giving back to your community. Knowing that my advice is put to work to serve more people makes me feel all warm inside!
“When we worked on our project to support Apparo, everyone was so willing to talk to us and share their passion, which was wonderful. Nonprofit leaders are some of the most inspiring people I have ever worked with. They have such a passion and belief in their purpose. It’s really wonderful to work with you all and it makes me feel really good to help.”
