Denise shares her perspective on volunteering with Apparo. “I volunteered before Apparo, but not using my IT skills, which actually makes it easier. I can work on it on my own time and it’s supported by our company management. What I really enjoyed about the RunningWorks project was not only getting to know their leadership, but also getting to work with my own Polypore colleagues in a way that I never had before. At work, our conversations are mainly transactional, focused on work, but when you volunteer together, it elevates your relationship to another level. You’re working as a team in a new way. You don’t have to stay in your specialized area, which allows you to learn about other areas of focus. I really enjoyed getting to know more of my colleagues and growing a deeper connection to them.”
Shifting her focus to the Humane Society project, she shares “The Humane Society project was nothing but positive and enjoyable. All of our project-based communications were smooth. I couldn’t have asked for an easier group to work with. They are so positive, appreciative and patient with me and my schedule. They are phenomenal people who are willing to learn and very resourceful. It was such a great experience and I’m also so appreciative of Jennifer (Ray, Apparo Program Manager), who pushed us to the finish line.”
