Through technology optimization, Atlanta-based nonprofit becomes better positioned to help improve lives of those with Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
BreatheStrong CF provides tools, resources, and inspiration to help individuals with Cystic Fibrosis and their families live fuller, healthier lives. We met with Becky Penuel, Executive Director, to learn about her recent work with Apparo through our Tech Therapy and Expert Link programs. Becky reached out to Apparo for help as their organization embarked on a merger with another nonprofit. She recognized that they had many opportunities to streamline and optimize their technology systems as they brought their organizations together.
As a first step in working together, Jennifer Ray, Apparo’s Director of Technology Engagements, connected Becky with Jonathan Waites of JiLaSoan Technologies through Apparo’s Expert Link partner referral program. Jonathan helped optimize their use of Salesforce and other software tools as a merged organization. We also connected Becky with Stacye Brim of STB Consulting to help with their strategic plan and Apparo’s Todd Reavis to help with hardware standardization.
Becky shared, “We approached Apparo not really knowing what we needed to ask for. Jennifer helped us figure that out. Jonathan then helped us realize what we needed to do to overcome data challenges. We were also using many different software platforms for managing our grant programs. He helped us consolidate that into Salesforce, trained us on its use, saved us $4,000 annually and decreased our dependence on outside parties. We could not have done this without him. He has been great.
“Exercise is critically important for people with CF to help clear their airway and strengthen their lungs. Our grants pay for gym memberships or to buy home exercise equipment. CF is an expensive disease because a lot of treatments are needed, which forces people with CF to decide if they are going to pay their rent and buy food or pay for their care.
“After this work with Apparo and their recommended vendors, our grant applicants can connect with us more efficiently and we’re saving money which we can use for program delivery. We’re also better positioned for fundraising, which will mean more money for our programs. The more we save, and the more we bring in, the more we can do for our constituents to help them live healthier lives with CF.
“It’s so helpful having Apparo’s recommended connections. There are so many people out there, but having somebody who’s vetted is so valuable. We’ve had so much success with Apparo’s referrals.
“If it had not for Apparo, we would not be so far along. Apparo saved us a lot of time and effort and energy and has given us something that we can count on. I would highly recommend Apparo. It’s been a go-to place for advice and assistance. They are invaluable to nonprofits.”
