Skilled volunteer helps build nonprofit capacity through technology education, so they can do more to improve the quality of life for those living with dementia
Magnolia Memory Care (MMC) partners with caregivers of loved ones living with Alzheimer’s and other kinds of dementia by providing a holistic care model delivering vital resources, support, and services to improve their quality of life.
MMC leadership reached out to Apparo for help to optimize their use of Google Workspace. Through our Education program, they were matched to Steve Maykowski to receive the right training for their team.
We met with Susan Bill, Executive Director, to learn about the significance of this technology education and its current and anticipated impact.
Sharon explained, “Everyone in our organization was at different levels in terms of comfort with technology. We needed foundational training on Google Workspace capabilities to increase collaboration, productivity and communication. We didn’t know where to start. Yenting [Liu, Apparo Program Associate] was exceptional in helping us identify what we needed to know.
“The training was exactly what we needed. Steve was great. Our team was so engaged. No one missed a training session. They all wanted to be there. He was able to teach effectively to all levels.”
Nonprofit technology education delivers critical benefits
After working with Steve, MMC is already experiencing:
- Saved time that was spent searching for files
- Streamlined processes that required used to require working across files – a weekly process that once took 2 hours can now be accomplished in 15 minutes, saving nearly 300 hours a year across the organization
- Enhanced internal reporting to track program effectiveness and participant progress
- Enhanced internal communication
- Improved collaboration, especially important for a team spread over five locations
- Security of cloud backup
- Ease of onboarding new staff
- Increased employee job satisfaction
Importantly, this technology education has driven improvements that will help MMC improve quality of life for those living with dementia, through time saved and improved capabilities to track progress. As Susan shared, “This work decreases our stress around processes and frees our time, so we can have more time and be more present with our participants and caregivers.”
