Skilled volunteer helps strengthen nonprofit ability to fundraise with Salesforce to help ensure health of mothers in Ethiopia
Healing Hands of Joy is a Charlotte-based nonprofit that works to make motherhood safe in Ethiopia through prevention of childbirth injury and rehabilitation of the injured.
We met with Cindy Breilh, Director of Operations and Fund Development, to learn about her recent work with Apparo’s Tech Therapy team. Cindy reached out to Apparo for help in improving their organization’s use of Salesforce for fundraising. Through Apparo’s Tech Therapy program, Jerri Grant worked to understand and assess their Salesforce needs and matched them to skilled volunteer Mary Gallivan, founder and consultant at Just So Mary.

Cindy shares, “We don’t have anyone in our organization with a Salesforce skill set. We tried to do as much as we could internally because we we’re a very lean organization, but we got to the end of our capacity and couldn’t see a way forward. We knew we needed help.
“Mary was amazing. We’ve made significant improvements and strengthened the capacity of our team. She helped us understand the nomenclature of Salesforce, how to better use our database and how to make more complex changes than we knew how to do before. She also helped us see that we had some issues with our system that needed correction by Salesforce.
“Jerri was a fantastic project manager who kept us on track and kept our problems in focus. It was one of the most well-organized volunteer opportunities I have ever experienced. We were very happy with our engagement with Apparo.”
As a next step, through Apparo’s Expert Link program, Jerri is helping HHOJ find additional, ongoing Salesforce support that can deliver on their needs in an affordable way.
