Collaborative AI Day of Service: AI Art of the Possible Fuels Social Good and Amplifies Nonprofit Impact
On Thursday, November 14th, 2024 AvidXchange Foundation, Honeywell, and EY hosted Apparo nonprofit community partners for an AI Art of the Possible Day of Service.
Nine nonprofits participated in breakout sessions with Apparo staff and skilled volunteers using ChatGPT, CoPilot, and other GenerativeAI tools to experiment with AI and prompts that can change the way they work. Through this interactive engagement, nonprofits collaborated with volunteers on the latest tools to better leverage them to amplify their missions.
Lauren Grant, Director of Development and Communications from participating nonprofit, The Park CDC shares, “I want to convey what a dynamic experience this workshop was, and I appreciate the time, energy, and effort that went into making this event possible. Capacity is often a challenge when working in the nonprofit space, and “wearing multiple hats” is often the norm.
“What I learned today will help me support and empower my team to collectively work smarter and ultimately achieve our goals in a more efficient and effective manner. I look forward to sharing these new insights and using AI tools to maximize our ability to manage our operations, raise awareness and support for our organization, and deliver meaningful programs to our West Charlotte community. This is the best professional development event I have attended this year. Thank you for ALL that you are doing to support local nonprofits! It means so much!”

It can be challenging for nonprofits to identify the right ways to use AI to help meet nonprofit goals. This workshop provided nonprofits with an opportunity to work alongside corporate and community volunteers at no cost to enhance their impact and efficiencies. Nonprofit participants experienced:
- Collaborative Learning: Discussions with technology experts sharing current challenges in specific areas such as fundraising and content creation, and how GenAI can be leveraged to address these areas.
- Visioning and Strategy: Guided sessions to help envision how GenAI could address specific nonprofit needs.
- Practical Applications: Throughout the workshop, volunteers assisted with crafting specific GenAI prompts to elicit effective, usable results. Nonprofits left the session with prompts and inspiration to improve their business practices.
Participating Nonprofits: Carolina Youth Coalition, Heart Math Tutoring, Digi-Bridge, Hope Haven, The Park CDC, Dottie Rose Foundation, The Boost Pad, Beattie’s Ford Road Vocational Trade Center, and Feeding Charlotte.
